Île Raphael

Coordinates: 16°27′0″S 59°37′0″E / 16.45000°S 59.61667°E / -16.45000; 59.61667 Île Raphael (called after Mme. Veuve Raphaël -1820s) is an island in the Cargados Carajos shoals (Saint Brandon), a group of outer islands of Mauritius. It is home to a privately owned fishing company, a coast guard and a meteorological station,[1] which in total amount to about 40 residents, the majority of Saint Brandon's population.

The island is the principal base for fishing activities carried out by the 90 year old Raphael Fishing Company[2] under a permanent grant it holds on this island, and twelve others, in this area of the Indian Ocean.
