The 35th Federal Congress of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party was held from 21 July to 23 July 2000, after the party defeat in the 2000 general elections and the subsequent resignation of then Secretary General Joaquín Almunia.
The 35th Congress saw José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero win the most votes, thus becoming the new Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.[1]
