  • August 13 - Governor Eduardo Campos, a candidate in the upcoming Brazilian presidential election, dies in a plane crash in Santos, São Paulo, together with six other people on board the aircraft. It also sparks a large fire.[1]

Brazil hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2014 Men's South American Volleyball Club Championship, the 2014 Women's South American Volleyball Club Championship and the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.
