The 2020 Toulon Tournament would be the 48th edition of the Toulon Tournament. It would be held in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône. The tournament, originally scheduled to be played from 1 to 14 June 2020,[1] was indefinitely postponed in April[2] and cancelled on 24 October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France.[3]
The tournament would be contested by twelve teams, but only seven teams were announced before the cancellation: , England, Ivory Coast, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, and Vietnam.
This would be the first appearance of Vietnam in the Toulon Tournament.[4] The Republic of Ireland was originally scheduled to the tournament, but later pulled out due to budget restriction.[5]
Group stage[]
The teams would be drawn into three groups of four. In the group stage, each group would be played on a round-robin basis. The teams would be ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss). If tied on points, the following criteria would be used to determine the ranking: 1. Goal difference; 2. Goals scored; 3. Fair play points. The group winners and the best runners-up would qualify for the semi-finals.
