2022 Commonwealth Games marketing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2022 Commonwealth Games marketing is a long running campaign that began when Birmingham won its bid to host the games in 2017.

Emblem[]

The official emblem was unveiled on 27 July 2019 at the Centenary Square by the Birmingham Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Games (BOCCG) during the Commonwealth Social festival to mark Three Years To Go. It was designed by local agency RBL, based in Royal Leamington Spa and the emblem is a jagged, triangular "B" shape formed by blue-yellow gradient lines representing the key connected venues of the Games throughout the West Midlands and bringing them together to form the "B" shape. This emblem is also the first to use the new branding for the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), now branded as Commonwealth Sport. It has mainly received positive reaction from locals in the city and on social media and some compared it to the emblem for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.[1][2]

Sponsors[]

On 19 August 2019, the BOCCG announced Gowling WLG, an International law firm, as the Games' first official sponsor and official legal advisers to the Games. The firm will offer advice to the Games on brand protection, disputes, and general commercial matters.[3][4]

In February 2020, the BOCCG appointed Gi Group as the Games' official recruiter. The company will offer services including job profiling, onboarding and an outplacement programme for Games' staff to find their next career options from August 2022.[5][6]

Swiss Watchmaker Longines signed an agreement with the CGF to be the official partner and timekeeper for the next three editions of the Games starting with Birmingham 2022. The announcement was made when the CGF, in partnership with Longines and BOCCG revealed the Games countdown clock in Centenary Square on 9 March 2020 during Commonwealth Day.[7][8]

On 23 September 2020, the BOCCG unveiled the University of Birmingham as the second official partner of the Games. The university will provide venues and accommodation for the athletes during the event. The agreement also confirmed the university as the official partner of the international leg of the Games' Queen's Baton Relay.[9]

On 15 October 2020, BOCCG appointed Scottish firm NVT Group as the official IT services provider of the Games.[10]
