Qualifying for the 2023 Rugby World Cup for Asia was scheduled to begin in May 2021, where the three leading teams in Asia (excluding Japan) would compete against each other in a single round-robin tournament to determine who would advance to a to earn the right to qualify for Rugby World Cup 2023.[1][2]

Format[]

The Asia Rugby Championship, governed by Asia Rugby, is the regional qualification tournament for Rugby World Cup 2023, with only the leading Asian Championship league acting as the process. Three team will compete against each other home and away, with the winner at the end of the round-robin tournament advancing to a Asia/Pacific play-off series against the winner of Oceania Round 3 (Oceania 2).

Three teams will compete during for the Asian qualifiers for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, with Japan the only team thus far qualified from the Region.

Round 1: 2021 Asia Rugby Championship[]

Due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Asia Rugby has postponed all competitions scheduled from 1 March 2020 to 30 June 2020.[3][4]

Originally, the three teams were due to play each other in a round-robin format home and away, however following the postponement of the originally scheduled competition, the new schedule meant the teams would only play each other once, all to be played in one venue.[5] In July 2021, the competition was pushed back again, to January 2022.
