The 27th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment was a volunteer infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
Service[]
The 27th Wisconsin was organized at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and mustered into Federal service March 7, 1863.
The regiment was mustered out on August 5, 1865, in Brownsville, Texas.
Involved in the Steele Expedition as part of the Red River Campaign. General Steele was supposed to travel from Little Rock Arkansas, but ran into supply issues and strong Confederate resistance. Which cause the expedition to retreat.
Casualties[]
The 27th Wisconsin suffered 22 enlisted men killed in action or who later died of their wounds, plus another 5 officers and 232 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 259 fatalities.[1]
