The 3rd Squadron, Iraqi Air Force is one of two reconnaissance squadrons of the Iraqi Air Force, the other being the 70th Squadron based in Basra.

The squadron was first established in 1934 operating Hawker Audax fighter/army co-operation aircraft from Rasheed Air Base in Baghdad.[1]

In mid-1978 it was reported by the British Air Attache in Baghdad as flying from Muthanna/BIAP with the Antonov An-24/26 "Coke", with 13 in operational use (The National Archives (United Kingdom)).

In 2002 the squadron was reported as still flying An-24s and An-26s, but from Al-Bakr, "30 km south of Tikrit."[2]

The 3rd Squadron is now based at Kirkuk Air Base and flies the SAMA CH2000 and the Comp Air 7SL.[3]
