The 9th (Fighter) Squadron is a squadron of the Iraqi Air Force.

In 1961 the squadron was in the process of formation, and being equipped with the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-19 "Farmer".[1] In 1980 it was flying Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21s; Iraq was using the MiG-21MF, and a few MiG-21F-13s at the time.[2]

In 2002 the squadron was reportedly flying from Saddam Airfield, Quayara, 25 km south of Mosul, still operating MiG-21s in the fighter-bomber role.[3]

The squadron is now based at Balad Air Base and flies General Dynamics F-16IQ Fighting Falcons.[4]

By November 2016 there may have been up to 14 Iraqi F-16s arrived in the country.[5]
