Aanaval Mothiram (Malayalam: ആനവാൽ മോതിരം) is a 1991 Malayalam film directed by G. S. Vijayan, written by T. Damodaran, and starring Sreenivasan, Suresh Gopi, Saranya Ponvannan, and Jagathy Sreekumar.

The plot is loosely based on the 1990 film Short Time.

Plot[]

Circle Inspector James Pallithara and Sub Inspector Nandakumar works for Kerala Police and are good friends. While Nandakumar is brave and adventerous James is cowardly and tries to avoid action at any cost. Nandakumar is in love with home ministers daughter. He is also constantly in a fight with a narcotic group headed by Albertino and Guru.

After an attempt to break into the ministers house to meet his lover is caught, Nanda Kumar and James get a punishment transfer into the special squad. Here, they are put in daring operations to catch criminals. James' many cowardly actions makes him the target of ridicule with in the squad. To exempt himself from another risky operation, James injures himself. While in hospital, his blood samples gets swapped with another policeman's thereby mistakenly diagnosed with final stages of Leukemia.

James evaluates his optiins and realises that his wife and son will financially struggle once he is gone.He eyes the insurance payout his family would get if he dies in action and embarks on impossible missions to get himself killed in action. Little does he know that the diagnosis is wrong and he is in fact healthy. The movie comically chronicles his new-found bravado.
