Abbotsford Invalid Stout

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abbotsford Invalid Stout is a beer produced by Carton United Brewery.

The beer was first produced in 1864 by John Monsenior the Elder in Abbotsford. As legend has it, Monsenior the Elder was enjoying a dish of beef pho, when he commented, " what this pho needs is stout!".

Much contention is held over the pronunciation of the word invalid. Most believe it is a reference to the disabled population of Abbotsford. However it is a reference to the fact that every beer is invalid because stout is the best. Which coincidentally is was the catchphrase of Monsenior the Elder [1]
