Abshir Boyah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abshir Boyah is a Somali pirate. He is one of the best known pirates to emerge from Somalia during the increase of Somali-based pirate activity in the early 21st century.[1] He is based in Puntland and is considered a celebrity there.[2]

Boyah began his career in the early 1990s as a lobster fisherman. Boyah claims that due to aggressive and often violent behavior by foreign fishing operations off the Somali coast, Boyah began capturing foreign fishing vessels.[3]
