Afon Tâf High School (Welsh: Ysgol Uwchradd Afon Tâf) is an 11–16 mixed secondary school in Troed-y-rhiw, Merthyr Tydfil, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, Wales.

Afon Tâf is the Welsh language name of the River Taff.

History[]

The school opened in September 1967. Pupils from Quakers Yard Grammar School, Troedyrhiw Secondary School and the Pantglas Senior School in Aberfan transferred to the school.

Renovation[]

In 2014 Afon Tâf began work on a £12 million renovation of the whole school. The way that it worked to allow pupils to still be educated is to allocate small sections of the school at one time. They first started by the lower end near the north hall and renovated it with new Science, Music, Art, Welsh, Informational Technology (IT), Food Technology, Engineering, and Textile rooms. This has taken One year to finish and the next section was the main foyer and the previous food Technology, Maths, gym and other rooms.

Now with the new corridors and foyer, The changes are dramatic. The foyer has a bigger appeal and still has the all-important 'Prefect Stairs' at the show, and the new corridor now hosts a unisex toilet both up and down stairs along new Maths, English, History, French and Offices for Head of years and the Deputy head.

On the final touches of the project the Old Design Technology Area, 3 story area and North Hall are demolished from the overall structure of the building. The PE block has an overall clean and offices and new changing rooms and the known large hall had its appearance still kept to its original green floor. The Protect has taken around 4 years to complete and is scheduled to finish in September 2017
