Against the Ice is an upcoming historical survival film[1][2] directed by Peter Flinth. Based on the true story recounted in Two Against the Ice by Ejnar Mikkelsen, the film was written by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Joe Derrick. It stars Coster-Waldau as Mikkelsen, Joe Cole as Iver Iversen, and Charles Dance and Heida Reed in undisclosed roles.

Filmed on location, Against the Ice is scheduled to premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2022.[3]

Premise[]

In 1909, Denmark's led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen was attempting to disprove the United States' claim to North-Eastern Greenland, a claim that was rooted in the idea that Greenland was broken up into two different pieces of land. Leaving their crew behind with the ship, Mikkelsen sleds across the ice with his inexperienced crew member, Iver Iversen.[4]

Cast[]

Production[]

Produced by RVK Studios and Ill Kippers, Against the Ice was directed by Danish director Peter Flinth, who worked with producer Baltasar Kormákur and cinematographer Torben Forsberg to shoot the film on location in Iceland and Greenland. On January 19, 2021, Deadline Hollywood revealed that the film was based on the Danish book Two Against The Ice by Ejnar Mikkelsen, and that it would follow Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Mikkelsen, along with Joe Cole as Iver Iversen, and Charles Dance and Heida Reed in undisclosed roles.[4]
