Agathon was an Egyptian Christian monk who lived around the 4th century in the desert of Lower Egypt. He was one of the Desert Fathers.[1]

Agathon was trained at the Thebaid by Poemen. According to the Sayings of the Desert Fathers, he was highly regarded by Poemen, who called him "abba" (father) even though Agathon was still young.[1]

Agathon then went on to live in Scetis with Alexander and Zoilus, who were later disciples of Arsenius. Later, he lived near Troe with his disciple Abraham. He was a contemporary of other Desert Fathers such as Amoun, Macarius, Joseph, and Peter.[2]
