Agent is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language spy thriller film directed by Surender Reddy and written by Vakkantham Vamsi. Produced by AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema, the film stars Akhil Akkineni and Sakshi Vaidya while Mammootty plays a pivotal role. The film was scheduled to be released on 24 December 2021,[1][2] but the release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]

Development[]

The film was announced by Akhil Akkineni in September 2020, tentatively titled Akhil 5, with Surender Reddy as the director.[4] It was officially launched on Akkineni's birthday in April 2021, revealing the title and posters.[5][6] A pooja ceremony was held on the launch day.[7]

Cast and crew[]

Akkineni's role as a spy reportedly inspired by the Jason Bourne character from the American-German film series Bourne.[8] In December 2020, model Sakshi Vaidya was confirmed as the female lead.[9] Hiphop Tamizha is composing the film score and soundtrack album,[10] with Ragul Herian Dharuman signed as the cinematographer and editing by Naveen Nooli. In March 2021, Mohanlal and Upendra were approached for a pivotal role which did not finalize.[8][11] In June 2021, Mammootty has been finalised for the role, who would play the antagonist, marking the first collaboration between Mammootty, Akkineni, and Reddy.[11] He would reportedly play a military officer in the film.[12]

Filming[]

Filming began in July 2021 in Hyderabad, India.[13][14] Mammooty joined the production in October 2021 in Budapest and completed filming his portions.[15]

Music[]

S. Thaman was earlier chosen as the composer of the film's score and soundtrack.[16] Later, in September 2021, it was reported that he has been replaced by Tamil musical duo Hiphop Tamizha.[17][18]
