Agnes Yulo Diego[2] (born 1993), known online as Akidearest, is a Filipino-American YouTuber. She is best known for discussing anime, manga, otaku culture and Japanese-related content on her YouTube channel.[3][4]
Early life[]
Diego was born in 1993, in Bakersfield, California and raised in Virginia, then eventually moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.[2] Her parents are of Filipino descent and migrated to the United States prior to her birth. Aki also spent four years in military school during her high school years.[2]
Aki's earliest jobs include working at a thrift shop, bookstore, and movie theater, while attending college full-time. After completing a degree in psychology at university, Aki decided to pursue YouTube as a career.[2]
YouTube channel[]
Aki created her YouTube channel "Akidearest" on December 18, 2014, and uploaded her first video December 26, 2014 titled, "REACTION: DMMD Love Scene".[5]
Her most viewed video is titled, "So I Gave My Alexa a Pikachu Voice and It’s Weird" with over 12 million views as of July 17, 2020.[6]
Aki is making Japan-based content, with a focus on Japanese pop culture.[7]

In 2020, Aki interviewed Japanese guitarist and artist, MIYAVI at YouTube Studios.[8]
In 2019, she also appeared as a cameo in the Nintendo Switch game, The World Next Door by Rose City Games.[9]
Aki was also a co-host for the SBS Podcast titled, The Anime Show, together with Joey, The Anime Man.[10]
Personal life[]
On November 4, 2016, Aki and Joey from The Anime Man revealed that they were dating.[11] They had a long-distance relationship for two years until Aki revealed that she moved to Japan to live with Joey on January 19, 2019.[12]
