The Aksaray Malaklısı, also known as the Malaklı Karabaş, is a large breed of livestock guardian dog from the Aksaray Province of Turkey.[1][2][3]

The Aksaray Malaklısı is believed to descend from a common ancestor with the Kangal, but has selectively been bred for larger size and greater weight; the breed typically stands between 73 and 78 centimetres (29 and 31 in) at the withers, with their bodies typically being 79 and 83 centimetres (31 and 33 in) in length.[1] The breed is typically grey in colour with black masks, large foreheads, drooping lips, large ears, a short coat and a non-curled tails.[1][2][3] The breed is known to only obey commands from their master and can be aggressive with other people, they typically do not tolerate other dogs of the same sex working with them.[3]

The Aksaray Malaklısı is used in its homeland to protect flocks of sheep from predators, especially wolves, a pair of Aksaray Malaklısı, always a dog and a bitch, can protect as many as 700-800 sheep.[3] Genetic analysis has shown the Aksaray Malaklısı is a distinct breed from other Turkish livestock guardian dog breeds including the Kangal, Akbash and Kars.[3]

The "malakli" in the breed's name is said to be due to their droopy lips.[2][3]
