Baladiyah Al-Batʼha (Arabic: بلدية البَطْحاء, romanized: Baladīyah al-Baṭʼḥāʾ, lit. 'the wide valley municipality'), officially the Batha'a Sub-Municipality,[1] is an urban baladiyah and the oldest commercial district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,[2][3][4] which also includes neighbourhoods of al-Manfuhah, ad-Dirah, al-Mansourah, al-Khalidiyyah and parts of Sinaiyah Qadeem.[5] Apart from being a historic flea market,[6] the locality is also famous for its large population of Bangladeshi migrant workers,[7][8] along with having significant presence of Indians, Pakistanis, Filipinos and Sri Lankans[9][10] who altogether dominate around 70% of the economic activity in the downtown.[11] It was made into a municipal division (baladiyah) in 1977 during the reign of King Khalid in order to have a better administration over the area.[12]
