Alagappa Alagappan

Alagappa Alagappan (December 3, 1925 - October 24, 2014) was an Indian-born American, and the founder of the Hindu Temple Society of North America.

Alagappan was born on December 3, 1925 in Kanadukathan, India.[1] He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Presidency College in Madras (now Chennai).[1] He earned a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), studied law and was called to the British bar.[1]

Alagappan went on to be a journalist before working for the United Nations.[1]

In 1970, he founded the Hindu Temple Society of North America, initially operating from his living room.[1]
