Albany Memorial Hospital

Albany Memorial Hospital[1][2][3] was a member of the three hospital Northeast Health System,[4] which is a member of St. Peter's Health Partners (SPHP),[5] which is a member of Trinity Health.[6][7] Albany Memorial, a 165-bed hospital,[8][9] merged with, and became a third campus of Samaritan, in 2020. History[]

Albany Memorial opened in 1868.[12] It was Albany's dispensary for the city's indigent. They moved more than once, most recently in 1957.[8]

Their oldest building was demolished in mid 2021 to add parking space in support of an increased focus on outpatient services.[13]

Controversy[]

The 2002 settlement for $997,500 of a 1997 case against the hospital involved an amount that avoided intervention by an oversight committee whose authority covers amounts of $1 million or more. Furthermore, for their 11 prior cases of that nature, most settlements were $150,000 or less.[14]

Another case against the hospital involved sharing payroll data regarding nurses; a group of hospitals was colluding to minimize pay increases in a manner ruled in 2009 to be illegal.[4]
