Alberto Frezza (Italian: [alˈbɛrto ˈfrettsa]; born May 23, 1989) is an Italian-American actor, director and environmentalist, best known for his roles as Deputy Garrett Sykes in the Freeform drama series Dead of Summer (2016) and as Officer Ryan Tanner in the Grey's Anatomy spin-off Station 19 (2018–2020).[1][2]

Early life and education[]

Alberto Frezza was born in Milan, Italy, and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he moved with his Italian parents and older sister when he was one month old. At 15, he left Ethiopia and returned to Italy to attend high school.[3][4][5]

He graduated from the Acting for Film program at the New York Film Academy.[3][6]

Career[]

In 2008, he made his acting debut in the role of Tom in the short film Pills (2008).

In 2011, he appeared in the fifth episode of Charlie's Angels, playing Wyatt Rice.

In 2016, he appeared as Deputy Garrett Sykes in the Freeform drama series Dead of Summer in all of the show's 10 episodes.

In 2017, Frezza was cast as a regular in Grey's Anatomy spin-off television series Station 19.[7] From 2018 to 2020, Frezza appeared in 30 episodes of the firefighter series, portraying the character of Officer Ryan Tanner who was accidentally killed by a three-year-old boy in the second episode of the third season.[8][9][10]

He appeared in The Flight Attendant in the role of Enrico.[11]

Personal life[]

Frezza speaks Amharic,[3] and has an older sister.[5]

In February 2021, Frezza revealed that in June 2020 he had been diagnosed with cancer. He had undergone chemotherapy at the National Tumor Institute in Milan, Italy. He has since fully recovered.[12][13]

He is a supporter of the Italian soccer team Juventus.[5]
