Alexander Hill (minister)

Alexander Hill (1785–1867) was a Scottish minister of the Church of Scotland who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1845.[1] He was professor of divinity at Glasgow University.

Life[]

He was born in St Andrews in Fife on 19 July 1785[2] one of 11 children of Rev George Hill and his wife Harriet Scott.

From 1839 to 1863 he was professor of divinity at Glasgow University.

He lived at 12 College Court in Glasgow.[3]

He died on 27 January 1867 in Ayr.

Family[]

He married Margaret Crawfurd. They had nine children.

His portrait was painted by John Graham Gilbert.[4]
