Alice Muthoni Wahome (born April 28, 1959) is a Kenyan politician. Wahome won the seat as Member of Parliament for the Kandara Constituency when she was elected in the March 2013 general elections.[1]

She is often described as a human right's defender, hardline politician, brilliant lawyer, and hardworking leader. Her fearless nature has often seen her at the forefront in promoting women leadership.

Education and Career[]

Wahome attended Karumu primary school and Siakago high school for her secondary studies. She attended the University of Nairobi, where she and earned a bachelor's degree in law.[2][3] She then earned a post-graduate diploma in law from Kenya School of Law.[4] She is a lawyer by profession.[4]

Politics[]

Alice Wahome's rise to the echelons of leadership started when she was still a young girl, but her star started shining between 1991 and 2001 when she was deeply involved in the women movement. It was a passion that saw her join the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) on whose council she was elected as a Vice-chairperson. Her leadership acumen was also witnessed when she served as a council member at the Law Society of Kenya council for two years.

In 2007, Alice Wahome plunged into the murky world of national politics by vying for the parliamentary seat in Kandara Constituency on a NARC Kenya ticket but she lost. She took a stab at the seat again in 2013 and won, making her one out of the 16 women who shattered the gender ceiling to be elected as Members of Parliament against 274 men. She proved her critics wrong by being re-elected in 2017 on a Jubilee party ticket, a position she holds to date.

Service to the constituency[]

As a Member of Parliament, she has been credited with uplifting her constituents through a number of pillars: Education: She was instrumental in moving her Constituency from position 8/8 to 2/8 in Murang’a County.

Infrastructure development: Under her leadership, several Tarmac and Murram Roads, as well as Bridges, have been constructed.

Health Infrastructure: She has so far commissioned 7 dispensaries and begun the construction of Bildad Kagia Level 4 Hospital.

She's also helped in the establishment of women groups and other special groups for social and economic empowerment.

Family Life[]

Away from politics, Alice Wahome is a wonderful wife and doting mother. She is married to one of the most revered gynaecologists in Kenya whom she has often described as a supportive spouse.

Alice is a mother to four children; three daughters and a son. Her firstborn is a media personality, the second a doctor, and the third a lawyer like herself. Her son, who is the lastborn, is also studying Law at the university.
