The All India Muslim Women's Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB).[1] is an organisation constituted in 2005 to adopt strategies for the protection and continued applicability of Muslim Personal Law in India, with a particular focus on women's issues, including marriage, divorce, and other legal rights.
Description[]
The AIMWPLB consists of a 30-person executive board and is led by president Shaista Ambar. The AIMWPLB received limited coverage by the Indian media in March 2008 when it released a 12-page "Sharai Nikahnama".[2] which sought to offer India's Muslim women a religiously-sanctioned alternative to conventional Islamic marriage contracts. The Nikhahnama is, according to the AIMWPLB applicable to Sunnis and Shi'a and is available in both Hindi and Urdu.[2]
As of march 2020, the president of AIMWPLB is Shaista Amber.[3]
