Memorial arch and plaque of the Allley of Angels

The Alley of Angels in Donetsk, Ukraine is a memorial for children of Donbas killed during the War in Donbas. By the entrance there is an arch made of forged roses interwoven with machine gun casings, a symbol of war, and doves, a symbol of peace. Under the arch there is a granite slab with the names and ages of the killed children. The youngest ones are one year old.[1]

A plaque with the inscription "Alley of Angels" was installed on May 5, 2015, and memorial was unveiled on May 5, 2015. By that date, according to the self-proclaimed DPR children's ombudsman Yana Chepikova, 57 children were killed.[2][better source needed] The arch and the name plaque were installed in August 2015.[3][better source needed] In 2018 the UNICEF Ukraine reported on Twitter that over 140 children were killed or injured by mines during the war.[4] The website 101life.net keeps track of the confirmed cases of the killed children.[5]

On June 1, 2017 a monument to children of Donbas was installed by the Alley. It was created by Russian sculptor Denis Seleznev.[6] The prototype of the monument was Kirill Sidoryuk (September 29, 2001 – August 29, 2014),[7] who was killed while protecting his sister from shelling with his body.[8]
