Alphonsine Cheusi

Alphonsine Kalume Asengo Cheusi (born 9 May 1955) is a Congolese magistrate who was appointed to the Constitutional Court of the Democratic Republic of Congo. She was the first and the only woman[1] appointed into the nine judges court by President Felix Tshisekedi on 22 October 2020.[2][3][4] Prior to this appointment, she served as an Advisor to the Supreme Court of Justice in 2013 and in 2018, Advisor to the Council of State.

Education and career[]

Chuesi earned a State Diploma in 1974 and a degree in Economic Law in 1983 from the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN). In 1989, she served as the head of the Unique Division of the Right Freedom and Citizen Department. In same year, she received two more appointments as a Magistrate by order of judicial organization for two years and the first deputy prosecutor and assigned to the Kalamu prosecutor’s office.[5][6]
