The genus and species were first described in 2019 by Wayne Maddison,[1][2] who originally collected the type specimen in 1983 in Teapa, Mexico.[2] Maddison tentatively placed the genus in the tribe Lapsiini, one of the tribes into which the subfamily Spartaeinae is divided.[2]
