Ancient TL is a peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal on Luminescence Dating, Electron Spin Resonance Dating and currently published by the Luminescence Dosimetry Laboratory, Department of Physics, East Carolina University (Greenville, NC, USA). The journal was originally published in 1977 by D.W. Zimmerman (Washington University, St. Louis, MO 63130).

Since 2015 the journal has been available online only. The journal is community maintained and articles can be published and downloaded free of charge. Since 2020, articles are published under the Creative Commons licence CC BY 4.0.

Journal scope[]

The journal deals with articles with experimental and theoretical results in Luminescence Dating and Electron Spin Resonance Dating and related techniques.

Review system[]

The journals' review system encourages and supports direct communication between authors and reviewers. Instead of submitting a manuscript to the editor who selects a reviewer, the authors can select an appropriate member from a reviewers panel on the basis of the subject matter. The manuscript should be directly sent to the author. For a transparent procedure, the editor has to be copied in any kind of communication between the authors and the reviewer and the reviewer must not be a member of the authors' laboratories.

To gain a fast procedure, the reviewer is asked to provide a review within 4 weeks.

Accepted contributions[]

Accepted are research articles not normally exceeding 5000 words including diagrams, tables and references. Short notes and letters should not exceed 2 pages or an equivalent of 1400 words of text.

Special contributions are thesis abstract, which will not allow figures and diagrams and should not exceed 750 words of text. Theses abstracts are normally passed without review.
