Andrew Tipping

Sir Andrew Patrick Charles Tipping KNZM PC (born 22 August 1942) is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. In 1986, he was appointed to the High Court.[1] He was promoted to the Court of Appeal on 1 June 1997,[2] and appointed to the Privy Council a year later.[3] On 1 January 2004, Tipping became one of the initial members of the new Supreme Court of New Zealand.[4]

Tipping retired from the Supreme Court on 17 August 2012.[5] On 20 September 2012 Tipping was appointed an Acting Judge of the Supreme Court.[6] He retired as an Acting Judge of the Supreme Court in August 2017 upon reaching the statutory retirement age.[7]

In the 2006 New Year Honours, Tipping was appointed a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services as a judge of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of New Zealand.[8] In the 2009 Special Honours he accepted re-designation as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit following the re-introduction of titular honours by the New Zealand government.[9][10]
