Maria Angelica Rosedell Malbas Amante-Matba (born April 16, 1970), is a Filipino politician serving as the incumbent Member of the Philippine House of Representatives from Agusan del Norte's Second District.[1][2][3] She was the youngest Provincial Governor in the Philippines at the age of 25 until the record was surpassed by both Mark Lapid of Pampanga and Migz Villafuerte of Camarines Sur.
Early life[]
Known as Angel, she was born and raised in Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte. She is the daughter of former Executive Secretary and Congressman Edelmiro Amante and former Cabadbaran City Mayor Rosario Malbas Amante.
Education[]
She took up Nursing course at the St. Luke's College of Nursing, Trinity University of Asia in 1991. She also graduated with Masters in Public Administration at Father Saturnino Urios University in Butuan City. She passed the Licensure Examination for Nursing in 1991 and the California State Board Exam in Nursing (USA) in 1994.[4]
Political career[]
Angel started her political career as a Provincial Governor in the province of Agusan del Norte in three consecutive terms from 1995 to 2004. In 2004 local elections she ran for Representative and won a seat serving her term from 2004 to 2007. In 2007 election, her father, Edelmiro Amante ran as Congressman and Angel ran for Governor where they both won serving both terms from 2007 to 2010. In 2010, Angel ran for Congresswoman and her brother Erlpe John Amante ran for Governor where they also both won their candidacies. And on 2013 and 2016 elections, Angel and Erlpe swap again their running posts wherein Erlpe ran for Congressman and Angel bid for Governor where they again both won serving their term from 2013 up to present.[5][4]
In 1998 to 2001, during her term as Provincial Governor of Agusan del Norte, Angel elected as Secretary of the Confederation of Provincial Governors, City Mayors and Municipal Mayors League Presidents of Mindanao of the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCO).
In 1995 to 1998, she was appointed as Chairperson of the Regional Development Council of Caraga Region XIII.[4]
2016 presidential elections[]
Angel Amante is a close ally of President Rodrigo Duterte. She was once quoted by President Duterte as the girl who he has love at first sight. President Rodrigo Duterte admitted publicly that a governor from Mindanao whom he once fell in love with, was one of his supporters during the campaign.[6][7][8][9][10]
Achievement[]
Governor Angel Amante is in the honor list of President Rodrigo Duterte and is clear of big-time drug traders. She is thrilled to be personally recognized by the President for her active efforts that quelled drug trade in the province.[11]
Ambush Incident[]
Last March 27, 2015, the convoy of Agusan Del Norte Gov. Ma. Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba was ambushed at Brgy. Camagong, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte. A Police Officer detailed security was injured during the incident while Governor Angel survived the Ambush.[12][13]

Angel Amante is married with Tawi-tawi Congressman Rashidin H. Matba.[14][15]
