Ankita Shorey is an Indian Supermodel, Actor and Beauty Queen who was crowned as Femina Miss India Winner .[1] Shorey completed her formal training in theatre. She appeared in a Canadian documentary The World Before Her, presented by Anurag Kashyap and written and directed by Nisha Pahuja.[2]

Early life[]

Shorey was born on October 3, 1994 in Jalandhar, Punjab.[citation needed] She is the daughter of Colonel Arun Shorey, who serves in the army, and Neelam Shorey, a tarot card reader.[3]

From the ages of five to twelve, she spent time in a Buddhist monastery in Ladakh, India.[3] Shorey trained as a theatre actress in New Delhi, under NSD theatre's director, Rashid Ansari.[citation needed] Shorey dreamt of being in Bollywood ever since she watched Aishwarya Rai be awarded the Miss India crown and the Miss World crown.[3]

Later, Shorey attended Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan and studied history at JMC.[4] She was so good at studying history, she said, that "if not here, I would’ve been an archaeologist, because I was so good at History that they all said I could do my Masters in Archaeology".[4] She completed much of her education in Delhi.[4]

When she was in college, people often mistook Shorey for Kangana Ranaut.[3]

Career[]

Shorey won the Femina Miss India International pageant in 2011.[4] She participated on the advice of her mother, who told her that she should participate and would place in the top three.[3]

She was the first Miss India and model to be a spokesperson for a jewelry brand Gitanjali Jewelry.[5] Shorey also represents Ticino watches and Rare Heritage, a bridal store.[6]

Modelling[]

Shorey walked the ramp at Manish Malhotra's fashion show Mijwan Sonnets in Fabric in 2012.[7][8] She was a catwalk showstopper[clarification needed] at India International Jewellery Week 2012 with Bipasha Basu.[9]

In 2013, Shorey was a showstopper at Lakme Fashion Week,[10] and a model for Anju Modi at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2013.[11] At IIJW 2013, she was also a showstopper on the first show of the first day for Gitanjali Jewelry with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha[12][13]

Shorey was a Brand Ambassador at Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week 2012 for JJ Valaya and Tarun Tahiliani.[citation needed]

In 2016, Shorey walked the ramp for Narendra Kumar at French European Indian Fashion Week at Eiffel Tower in Paris.[14]

Awards[]

Shorey was awarded Best Fresh Face by Sahara Group in 2012[15] and as a rising star in Las Vegas in 2013[16][clarification needed].

Hosting[]

Shorey hosted the Filmfare award in 2012 with Ranbir Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan.[17]

Movies[]

Shorey signed up for a three-film deal with Bhushan Kumar and T-Series in 2013; all three films will be of different genres.[18][19] She played herself in the 2012 film The World Before Her, written and directed by Nisha Pahuja.[20]

Endorsement[]

Shorey was a brand ambassador for Gitanjali Jewellery[21] and the India Bridal Fashion Week in 2012,[22] as well as the jewellery brand Gili in 2014.[23][clarification needed]

Personal life[]

Shorey is a practicing Buddhist.[4] She has a brother, , also known as 'Bro Aman'. He shaved his head in 2011 because he had "promised to God" that he would do so if Ankita won the pageant, which she did.[24][3]
