Anthony Beauvillier (born June 8, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Beauvillier was drafted by the Islanders with the 28th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.[1]

Playing career[]

Beauvillier played in the 2009 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Montreal Canadiens minor ice hockey team.[2] He was drafted by the Shawinigan Cataractes in the 1st round (2nd overall) of the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft,[3] and he played 64 games with the Cataractes during the 2013–14 QMJHL season. The following season his outstanding play was rewarded when he was selected to play in the 2015 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, where he led Team Cherry as captain.[4] He was also named to the 2014–15 QMJHL Second All-Star Team.[5]

On October 23, 2015, Beauvillier was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the New York Islanders.[6] On October 13, 2016, Beauvillier made his debut for the Islanders in the season-opening game where got his first assist in the NHL.[7][8] On October 18, 2016, Beauvillier scored his first NHL goal against Aaron Dell of the San Jose Sharks.[9]

Beauvillier made the Islanders' opening night roster to begin the 2018–19 season.[10] On November 15, Beauvillier recorded his first career NHL hat-trick to help guide the Islanders to a 7–5 win over the New York Rangers.[11] On August 28, 2019, Beauvillier re-signed with the Islanders to a two-year contract.[12]

On June 23, 2021, he scored what ended up being the final goal at the Nassau Coliseum, an overtime winner in Game 6 of the 2021 Stanley Cup Semifinals against the Tampa Bay Lightning to avoid elimination and force Game 7 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, a game the Islanders were defeated, ending their season.[citation needed]

On September 1, 2021, Beauvillier was re-signed to a three-year, $12.45 million contract by the Islanders.[13][14]

International play[]

Beauvillier competed with the Canada Quebec team at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He helped Canada men's national under-18 ice hockey team win gold at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, and bronze at the 2015 IIHF World U18 Championships.[15]

On December 1, 2015, Beauvillier was invited to the Team Canada selection camp for the 2016 World Junior Hockey Championships.[16]

Beauvillier represented Canada at the 2018 World Championships.[17]

Personal life[]

Beauvillier's older brother Francis also plays hockey. They both briefly played together for the Shawinigan Cataractes during the 2013–14 season.[18] Francis was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and currently plays for the Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League.[19] Anthony is best friends with Islanders teammate Mathew Barzal, whom he met when the two played for Canada at the 2015 World U18 Championships. [20][21]

Beauvillier gained worldwide attention in December 2019 for his flirtatious tweet towards actress Anna Kendrick.[22]
