Ape vs. Monster is a 2021 American science fiction monster film produced by The Asylum. Keeping with The Asylum's mainstay theme of mockbusters, it was released on April 30 the same year as the 2021 monster film Godzilla vs. Kong, with some resemblance to Rampage.[1][2]

Plot[]

The International Space Station nearly collides with a space capsule. As the object passes by, the station takes one picture which it transmits to Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, and reports possible signs of life inside. The capsule launches parachutes and lands in the New Mexico desert, where the creature inside quickly breaks free. A commotion is heard in Washington, D.C., and Dr. Linda Murphy of Langley calls a Pentagon meeting. She identifies the probe as an ELBE, a secret U.S.-Soviet deep space probe launched in 1985. Bush and Putin negotiated the mission so they could make alien contact, a revelation they thought would end the Cold War. However, due to the loss of communication in 2007, it was considered a failure. The Soviets do not want to know Abraham, the chimpanzee inside the capsule, so Marcos orders Murphy to retrieve it before the Russians discover its return.

The landing site is led by Murphy and the General in HMMWVs. Upon approaching the ELBE, Reynolds and four soldiers discover it to be empty, its interior splattered with a strange green liquid. Reynolds is killed when the chimpanzee attacks him, now enormous in size. The woman hits her head on a rock as Murphy runs to assist. After she loses consciousness, she witnesses a woman shooting a tranquilizer gun at the chimpanzee. Following her rehydration, Eva discovers that the woman she encountered was Eva Kuleshov, an astrophysicist and former Oxford classmate who now works for the Russian government. In order to confirm the existence of an alien origin for the green liquid that caused Abraham's mutation, the two scientists bring Abraham to Langley after their superiors agree to keep it secret between them. Gila monsters consume the substance they are leaving behind as they depart.

At Langley, Abraham continues to grow and awakens from his coma. Murphy deploys the knockout gas on Kuleshov while they prepare to kill him. At gunpoint, Kuleshov holds them back while their weapons fire. Both scientists are questioned about their loyalty as a result of the standoff. Murphy is defended by Marcos, noting that she grew up with Abraham. In the final scene of the film, Kuleshov talks tensely to her superior, as Murphy hands Abraham a stuffed animal. During this time, an MP guarding the ELBE site is eaten by the now-enormous Gila monster. The remains of the deceased are found by Murphy. As the creature moves east, Marcos orders her to follow it. A huge amount of the alien liquid has been wiped out due to exposure to the Earth's atmosphere. Kuleshov's team discovers this in the lab. Considering Abraham's blood samples have been relatively stable, the remaining liquid is injected into him to help preserve it.

In the chasm, the Gila monster destroys a bridge and a train speeds forward. Professor Murphy and her lab tech Jones the creature's electromagnetic interference prevents her from contacting the train.re's electromagneTs the Gila monster intercepts the train, he throws the lead car at their Humvee, which they attempt to evade and chase after on foo Having lost communication, Kuleshov goes looking for them using an Apache. kes Her finding of them comes at the same time as the creature crushing a soldier with Weapons from the helicopter do little to damage it and it retreats underground. fect on it, but it retreats underground.

Due to power outages caused by the Gila monster, Huntington was without power. Murphy's distant father predicted Abraham would become the most significant animal in history, and Murphy him. flees Langley, tearing up the stuffed animal that Murphy left. Her confusion over his sudden growth causes Kuleshov to mention rumors that he has destroyed the Extraterrestrial Defense Initiative, successor to the Strategic Defense Initiative. During their trip to Washington, Murphy, Kuleshov, and Jones encounter the Gila monster in Huntington, West Virginia. Marcus suggests that they talk to Noah, Murphy's father, who is critical to the success. He has not spoken to her in a decade and she does not want him involved. The scientists note Abraham's low tolerance for the alien material compared to the Gila monster, since Abraham inhaled the material instead of ingesting it. General Delaney, ReynColonel Delaney, Reynolds' successor, orders the scientists to find the monsters as soon as possible. Ham, who her distant father told her would become the most important animal in history. With the Gila monster causing power outages in Huntington, she sees an opportunity to save him. The scientists find Abraham's blood in Huntington, where the alien cells within are dying. Murphy realizes Kuleshov's deception. Furious, she leaves her behind as a Special Forces team from Langley engages Abraham. He routes them and locks eyes with Murphy, but the fires started by a flamethrower cause him to flee. Kuleshov disappears with the Apache.

A beam of cosmic energy from the Andromeda galaxy, attuned to the alien substance, has been guiding both monsters at Langley. The Hubble Space Telescope reports an alien spacecraft approaching Earth, and Delaney suggests using the EDI to destroy it, despite Abraham smashing its operations center. As the signals reaching Abraham are weaker, Murphy believes that he can resist the aliens' control to some extent. Noah is called in by Marcos, but is greeted coldly by Murphy. Noah suggests creating a bio-electric pulse, but Murphy thinks interference with cosmic beams is the best course of action. The Washington Monument houses the transmitter for that pulse since the ship and the monsters are convergent on Washington. After the attack on Abraham begins, Abraham and his daughter reconcile.

A Gila monster erupts out of the ground near the Capitol Building, while Abraham is released from alien control by the transmitter. The Washington Monument remains ringed by the sound of Delaney's gunfire as he climbs it. A stray missile destroys the monument, crushing both the general and the signal transmitter. The military is preparing to level the city to stop the monsters, which is why Murphy and Jones are racing to retrieve a prototype transmitter at CityCenterDC while Noah remains behind. Despite Murphy's successful repair, the Gila remains a threat. Murphy is saved from it by Abraham, but Jones is devoured by it. The Gila monster takes advantage of its situation by biting its neck. The Apache is attacked by the Gila monster after Kuleshov, disobeying orders from her superiors, asks for Murphy's forgiveness. In agony, Abraham releases it and snaps its neck. The helicopters surrounding Marcos are ordered to stand down on account of the chimpanzee's benevolence. It withdraws from the area.

After Abraham's capture, the U.S. government brings him to a base outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Murphy will study him. She agrees to Noah's help.
