Ardent Health Services, formerly known as Behavioral Healthcare Corporation is a healthcare company based in Nashville, Tennessee, US.

History[]

The Behavioral Healthcare Corporation was founded in 1993 by Charles A. Elcan.[1][2] It was a subsidiary of Kindred Healthcare.[1] It operates hospitals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Albuquerque, New Mexico (Lovelace Health System), Amarillo, Texas, and, as of March 1, 2018, in Tyler, Texas.

By 2001, the private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe became majority shareholders.[3]

The company sold its psychiatric hospitals in 2005.[2] Additionally, it changed its name to Ardent Health Services.[2]

In 2015, Ventas acquired its real estate investments while Equity Group Investments acquired its hospitals, for US$1.75 billion.[4]

In February 2020, Ardent Health Services president and CEO David T. Vandewater announced his plans of retirement from the company. He will remain as president and CEO until a successor is named.[5]

In August 2020, Ardent Health Services appointed Martin J. Bonick as president and CEO.[6]
