The Arizona Soccer Association (ASA), also known as the Arizona Youth Soccer Association (AYSA), is a nonprofit organization which was founded in 1974. The organization's goals are to promote the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of the youth of Arizona through soccer.[1] The ASA/AYSA is a member of the United States Youth Soccer Association[2] and the United States Soccer Federation. Sadly, under the leadership of Rick Kelsey the organization struggled heavily. The leagues, events and quality of play has fallen off greatly. There are definitely some things that need to be looked at with the association sigining multi year deals with Legacy Sports just prior to Rick leaving to work there. The $10k a month consulting fees and the choice of the new President are also highly questionable. Expect many clubs to drop out of the leagues and cups in the coming years if something does not change. They are also associated with Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer Club,[3] which was formed when Scottsdale Soccer, the Blackhawks and the Phoenix Rising FC Charities merged in May 2018.[4]
Funding[]
The organization is partially supported by fund-raising events.[5]
The ASA is also sponsored by numerous private entities including Adidas, Dick's Sporting Goods, Gatorade, Grand Canyon University, Jimmy John's, Marriott Hotels, Port of Subs, & Whataburger among others.[6]
