Artist-in-residence

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Artist-in-residence programs exist to invite artists, academicians, and curators to reside within the premises of an institution.[1] Depending on the talent involved, the program may be entitled composer-in-residence[2] or writer-in-residence.[3][4] Comic artists programs may be called comic artist in residence[5] or comic in residence.[6] (Spelling of each term may include or omit the hyphen.)

Some residency programs are incorporated within larger institutions, such as museums, universities, or galleries. Other organizations exist solely to support residential exchange programs.[7]

Various composer-in-residence programs exist, for example with orchestras and universities.[2] Ensembles may be "ensembles-in-residence", such as Gamelan Pacifica residing in Cornish College of the Arts.
