Zack[4] (born 1989/1990), known by his alias Asmongold, is an American Twitch streamer and YouTuber, primarily known for playing World of Warcraft.[7] He is a co-founder of One True King, a group of online content creators.[8]

Asmongold first gained popularity through his YouTube channel. He has been active on Twitch since 2013, gaining a cult following as a World of Warcraft streamer.[9] Ahead of the 2017 announcement of World of Warcraft Classic, he had long wished for and speculated about the gamemode's development.[9] Upon the release of Classic in 2019, he surged in overall popularity.[10] He was also one of the platform's most popular World of Warcraft streamers during the 2020 release of Shadowlands.[11]

Leading up to his playing of FFXIV, Asmongold had reacted to many long time players of World of Warcraft quitting the game in late July 2021, including Madseason, Preach, and Stoopzz, mostly following the lawsuit against Blizzard at the time, as well as the greed of Blizzard through Microtransactions.[12]

On July 3, 2021, Asmongold started playing Final Fantasy XIV to hundreds of thousands of viewers.[13] In the weeks following, FFXIV experienced substantial growth in number of players and overall popularity.
