Athar Amir-ul-Shafi Khan is an Indian bureaucrat and engineer.[1][2] He serves as the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Chief executive officer to Srinagar Smart City Ltd.

Early life and education[]

Khan was born on 5 September 1992 into a Muslim family in Devipora-Mattan village, Anantnag district of South Kashmir.[3] His father Mohammad Shafi Khan is a teacher who teaches economics at the Government Higher Secondary School in Anantnag and his mother Tahira Khan is a homemaker.[4][5] He has one younger brother and two younger sisters.

Khan completed his Higher Secondary education from Tyndale Biscoe School in Srinagar. After schooling, he did his under graduation from Indian Institute of Technology Mandi and graduated with an Electrical engineering degree.[6] During this time, he decided to attempt civil services examination.[7] In 2015, he had cleared the exam and got into Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).[8] In 2016, in his second attempt he secured All India Rank 2 and got into IAS.

Career[]

In 2016, Khan got selected into civil service. He entered the Rajasthan cadre because of no vacancy in Jammu and Kashmir. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his proposal for inter cadre deputation to Jammu and Kashmir for a period of three years.[9]

On 1 March 2021, Khan joined as the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.[10][11][12] He also hold an additional charge of Chief executive officer to Srinagar Smart City Ltd.[13]

Personal life[]

In March 2018, Khan and Tina Dabi had a court marriage in Jaipur by the district collector Siddharth Maharajan[14][15] After two years, they filed for divorce in Jaipur family court in November 2020,[16][17] and the divorce was finalized by family court No. 1 in Jaipur under Section 28 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954 in August 2021.[18][19]
