Maulana Atta Ur Rehman ((Urdu: مولاناعطاالرحمن), born July 25, 1965) currently he is serving as Senator.[1] He is also served as federal Minister of Tourism from 2008-2010 during PPP government. Currently he is Vice President JUI (F), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is the brother of Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, the Emir of JUI (F) Pakistan and the second son of former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the then NWFP Maulana Mufti Mahmud. Mufti Mahmud was a political leader of the Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind before 1947 in British India and JUI after Pakistan came into being.
Early education[]
He got his early education in his village Abdul Khail from his father. Later on, he entered Madrassa Qasim ul Uloom, Multan for further Islamic studies. He was issued the degree of Shahadat ul Aalimia by Wifaq ul Madaris in 1987. Nine years later, he got the degree of Masters of arts in Islamiyat from Gomal University. After doing masters, he started teaching Uloom e Islamia in the famous religious Institute Jamia-tul-Maarif-Alsharia, D.I Khan. He was also the chief Muhtamim of the same institute.
Political career[]
In 1998, he was appointed as the party election commissioner for Dera Ismail Khan. In the same year, he was appointed as the Joint Secretary JUI, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In 2002, he was appointed as the party election commissioner for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the same year, he was appointed as the party president/Ameer for District Dera Ismail Khan. In 2006, he was elected as the Vice President/Naib Ameer JUI for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Since 2006, he has kept the same position in the party.
He was elected two times consecutively as the member of national assembly of Pakistan from NA-25, District Tank. In his first election he led the main contender Mr Dawar Khan Kundi by about 72,000 votes. In his second election of 2008, he defeated the former provincial minister Habib Ullah Khan Kundi aka Babu Khan, but there was a controversy in the result and Babu Khan claimed that the election was unfair and he petitioned a case in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against Maulana Atta ur Rehman but the Supreme Court cleared the result and Maulana Atta ur Rehman was declared as the member of National Assembly of Pakistan. At that time, JUI under a unanimous decision passed by the central executive committee joined the PPP government as a coalition partner and he was given the portfolio of Minister of Tourism.[2]
In the election of 2013, after his elder brother Maulana Fazl Ur Rehman, the chief of JUIF won all the three seats from Tank, Dera Ismail Khan and Lakki Marwat. Maulana Atta Ur Rehman was nominated to contest in the by elections on NA-27 District Lakki Marwat against Col (Retd) Amir Ullah Khan Marwat of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI). Maulana Atta Ur Rehman failed to make it to the National Assembly of Pakistan.
