Mr. Atul Sobti is Director General of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex body of Public Sector Enterprises in India.  Prior to this, Mr. Sobti was CMD of BHEL, a Maharatna PSE and one of India’s largest Engineering and Manufacturing Enterprises. Mr. Sobti is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate with MBA and Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management. He is also fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering and Institution of Engineers (India).

Mr. Sobti represents Public Sector on Tripartite Committees relating to policy on labour laws and welfare. He is a Member of Central Board of Trustees, EPFO; Member of World Energy Council (Studies Committee) and Member of National Board of Workers education and Development, Ministry of Labour & Employment. He represents PSEs on international bodies such as OECD, ILO, IOE, WTO etc. He has been leading delegation of top management of CPSEs to Global Forums, International Institutes and Industries in Europe and USA.

Mr. Sobti has a repertoire of diverse and versatile professional experience of over four decades working in various capacities, including nearly six years at Board level. As a visionary leader, he was responsible for a turnaround of BHEL operations as well as a series of new initiatives, during the time he was at the helm. He was also the erstwhile Chairman of Raichur Power Corporation Limited, Karnataka, India; former Member of the General Assembly, Electrical Construction Company, Libya.

Under his leadership SCOPE has given renewed impetus to evolve itself as an impactful organisation of Public Sector through its effective policy advocacy efforts, capacity building programmes, research and studies and brand building efforts. He is spearheading a number of research and studies with International organisations in pertinent areas like Climate Change with GIZ, Germany, Developing Future Fluent Leaders with Centre for Creative Leadership, USA and Women Empowerment with International Labour Organisation (ILO), Geneva. He is instrumental in conceptualising and directing SCOPE Webinars series during pandemic and  24 such programs have already been conducted so far, on numerous subjects.

Recognizing his contribution, Mr. Sobti has been honoured with several prestigious awards and accolades including ‘Eminent Engineering Personalities Award’ by Institution of Engineers; ‘Most Admired Leader Award 2020’, ‘Excellence Award 2019 for Nation Building’, ‘CEO with HR Orientation’, ‘Excellence Award for Leadership’ etc.
