Avonport, Nova Scotia

Lower Avonport (LA) "Home of the world famous Avonport Beach". is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Kings County between the mouths of the Avon River and the Gaspereau River.^[1] "One of Nova Scotia's best striped bass fishing destinations". Early settlers included the Fillis and Reid families.^[1] It was part of the Horton Township settlement and was known as Horton Point until its name was changed to Lower Avonport in 1864.^[1]

The area was used as a burial site for the Mi'kmaq, a First Nations people, in beginning of the 17th century.^[2]

There are popular tourist destinations such as Haliburton's Hill, Wog's Road and Wiener's Road.
