Bangladesh University of Professionals (abbreviated as BUP) is the 31st public university of Bangladesh (according to University Grants Commission of Bangladesh)[1], located in Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka. It is the first public university of Bangladesh to run by Bangladesh Armed Forces. It was established under the Bangladesh University of Professionals Act, 2009[2].

History[]

Establishment of a university for the armed forces educational and training institutes was a long felt need. National security, war strategy, medical, engineering and technology related to higher studies are in high demand at present. To keep pace and to be at par with the fast developing world, the national higher studies, research enabling modern knowledge and creating scope for education and studies are the obligations to be fulfilled. In order to expand and integrate the existing educational and training institutes of the armed forces, they were needed to be brought under a single umbrella or authority. Thereby, the establishment of "Bangladesh University of Professionals," (BUP) took place in that process and came in to being as 31st public university of Bangladesh on 05 June 2008[1]. BUP is a unique public university run by the armed forces with upholding the motto "EXCELLENCE THROUGH KNOWLEDGE". The youngest university is confident in furthering the knowledge in the field of national security, technology and modern science to achieve the desired human resources development of the country.[3]

Facilities and Services[]

Accommodation/Halls[]

Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) is a new university and it does not have any dedicated hall building. However, the university authority has rented 6 buildings at Mirpur DOHS to address the students accommodation issue. At present about 400 students are residing there.

Medical[]

BUP medical center inaugurated in March 2010 running with chief medical officer, senior medical officer, 1 medical officer, 1 paramedic, 2 medical assistants & 2 office assistants under supervision of VC office. Now a day, BUP medical center runs beyond office hour up to 5:30 pm on working days. Beside this, medical coverage given on BUP self-finance program on Friday & Saturday 9:00 am to 9:30 pm & Sunday, Wednesday & Thursday 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. A wheel chair is kept on 8th & 12th floor of academic building for emergency patient transport. In addition, the medical center provides medical support on 24 hours on call basis and during seminar, symposium, workshop, sports & cultural activities. Voluntary blood donation program is also organized by medical center.

Day Care[]

BUP has established a Day Care Center and the function of this center has started officially on 5 December 2017.

ICT Services[]

BUP currently have more than 700 computers with internet connection in class rooms, computer labs, cyber center, language center  and different offices in order to conduct student education, research activities and routine job. High speed Wi-Fi connections are available in all the places of BUP campus including the halls for all teachers, officers, employees and students.

BUP Lake[]

BUP comes with a beautiful lake inside the campus, surrounded by academic buildings and fields. Two sides of the lake are adjoined by a floating bridge.
