Bank SBI Botswana Limited, formerly State Bank of India Botswana Limited, was a commercial bank in Botswana. It is was licensed by the Bank of Botswana, the central bank and national banking regulator.[2] The bank voluntarily surrendered its banking license and exited the country effective 30 June 2021. The bank's customer accounts were transferred to Bank of Baroda Botswana.[3]

The headquarters and main branch of the bank were located on the 2nd Floor at the Exponential Tower, in the central business district of Gaborone, Botswana's capital city.[4] The geographical coordinates of the bank's headquarters are 24°39'07.5"S, 25°54'10.0"E (Latitude:-24.652083; Longitude:25.902778).[5]

As of 31 March 2020, Bank SBI Botswana Limited had total assets of BWP:347,923,566 (US$30.66 million), with shareholders equity of BWP:115,930,172 (US$10.22 million). Bank SBI Botswana Ltd has surrendered its banking license on 30th June 2021 and wound up business in Botswana. [1]

History[]

The company was registered in Botswana as a limited liability company, on 27 January 2006. On 29 July 2013, State Bank of India (Botswana) Limited, was granted a banking licence by the Bank of Botswana.[6] It opened its first branch in Gaborone, on 26 November 2013. The name of the Bank was changed from State Bank of India Botswana Limited to Bank SBI Botswana Limited on 30 June 2015. On 30 June 2021, Bank SBI Botswana voluntarily surrendered its banking license, transferred customer accounts to Bank of Baroda Botswana and exited the country.[7]

Bank SBI Botswana Limited is a 100 percent subsidiary of State Bank of India, a Mumbai, India-based financial services conglomerate, whose total assets exceed US$590 billion and whose shares are traded on the stock exchanges in Mumbai and London.[8]

The bank has since been wound up with effect on 30 June 2021. [9]
