Barani is a department or commune of Kossi Province in western Burkina Faso. Its capital lies at the town of Barani. According to the 1996 census the department has a total population of 49,144.[1]
The department of Barani borders the country of Mali to the north. The village of Barani is most well known as the site of an annual horse festival.[2] It can be reached via a road heading north from the village of .
