Basen Murmu (9 April 1987 – 8 June 2020[1]) was an Indian singer in the Santali film and music industries.

Biography[]

Basen Murmu lent his voice to more than five hundred songs during his life. These included "Kulmi Dare Leka Kudim Harayen", "Chhemek Chhemek", "Jiwi Rani Tiseem Hijug", and "Alak jadi nadi leka"[2][3][4]

Murmu was born in Barhajian village of Bijtala block in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha (India). His father's name is Naran Murmu and his mother's name is Maina Murmu. His widow's name is Mamta Murmu. Bhagyalakshmi Murmu is his daughter.[5]

Murmu died on 8 June 2020. He was only 33 at the time of his death.[3] He had no prior symptoms of any disease. On 8 June, he suddenly collapsed and was taken to Rairangpur Government Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
