Ahmed Abiola Akinbiyi Lawal (born 27 January 1996), known professionally as Bella Shmurda, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.[1][better source needed] He rose to prominence with the release of the song "Vision 2020", and a follow up remix which featured Nigeria rapper Olamide.[2]
Early life and career[]
Bella Shmurda rose to prominence after his debut single "Vision 2020", and a follow up (remix) to the single which he featured Olamide. He released several hit songs in 2020, some which featured top musicians, one of which is "Cash App" featuring Zlatan.[3] He was nominated for the Headies Award for the next rated in 2020.[4][5]
On the 10th of June 2021, Bella Shmurda revealed on his Instagram page that he intends to release the second volume of his debut EP titled “High Tension Vol. 2", which is scheduled to be released in July 2021 and the album artwork was also shared on his page.[6] He released the EP on 7 July 2021.[7]
Controversies[]
Lawsuit[]
According to reports, Bella has a deal with his record company that is set to end in 2022. Bella Shmurda had been engaged in the release, publishing, distribution, and marketing of songs and videos, among other things, without the label's approval and authorization, according to the label. The artist had even gone so far as to announce that he had joined with another record company, Dangbana Republik, although his contract with One Word Global Records Limited was still in effect, according to the label.
As a result, the company is seeking a court order prohibiting the singer from claiming the name and performing musical compositions issued under or in conjunction with it. The Label is also seeking N200 million in damages. [8][9]
