Highlights[]

"Bhishma Pratigya" made in 1921 is said to be the first Telugu silent film. Since there are no words, it is somewhat absurd to call a "Telugu" movie. It makes sense to say that the film was made by "Telugu Vadu".

Raghupati Venkaiah sent his son RS Prakash abroad to learn filmmaking. Prakash has toured Germany, Italy and the United States. He worked as an assistant to the director of "Ten Commandments" during the production of "Cecil B. Demilli".

After Prakash's return, he founded 'Star of the East', the first film production company in South India. In 1921, Bhishma Pratigya produced a mute film. Prakash not only directed but also played the role of Bhishma in the film. An English woman named 'de Costello' plays the role of Ganga.

Later, the father and son made some more dumb films like "Matsyavatar", "Nandanar", "Gajendramoksham". Later, the famous C.Pullayya and YV Rao started their film career as Prakash's followers.
