Big Bang is the fifth studio album by the Finnishavant-gardeprogressive metal band Waltari, released in 1995. It is difficult to pigeon hole Waltari into a specific genre, and this is very true with this album. It is a highly diverse production, encompassing Death Metal and Europop.
The album produced two singles, both with promotional videos. The first of these, Atmosfear has within it elements of Thrash Metal and Dance Music. The catchy ballad The Stage was also released as a single with accompanying video. These singles account for two of the three Waltari compositions to reach the top 20 in the Finnish charts. Atmosfear peaked at 6 and The Stage at 15.[1] The album itself reached a high of 7 in the national charts and was their second most successful album.[2]
Reviews are generally very good. At sputnikmusic.com the album was seen as excellent and received 4.1 out of 5.[3] Allmusic.com also rated it as 4 out of 5.[4] At rateyourmusic.com one reviewer likened them to a poor imitation of Faith No More with only two songs worthy of note. Other reviews on this site are much more positive, remarking on the band’s ability to showcase such a wide selection of styles, noting that they are one of the few bands able to do this so successfully. Overall the most common vote on this site is 4 out of 5.[5]
