Bill Owens (September 28, 1935 – April 7, 2021)[1] was an American country music songwriter. He was the uncle of Dolly Parton.[2] Over the course of his career, he wrote more than 800 songs.[3]

He wrote the song “Put It Off Until Tomorrow" with Parton. The song won the 1966 BMI Song of the Year award.[4] He mentored his niece, Dolly Parton, and taught her chords on the guitar and took her around places to sing.[5] Parton said, "He saw early on that that I was serious about my singing".[5]
